Important Notice on Key Custody

SSH Key Generator provides a free client-side tool. We do not store, hold, or have access to any generated keys or passphrases. You are exclusively responsible for saving, securing, and backing up any private keys you generate. Once your browser tab is closed, any uncopied or unsaved cryptographic data is permanently irrecoverable.

1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using SSH Key Generator (sshkeygenerator.com), you acknowledge that you have read, understood, and agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions ("Terms"). If you do not agree with any part of these Terms, you must immediately discontinue use of the website and services.

2. Description of the Service

SSH Key Generator is a browser-based utility designed to synthesize OpenSSH-compatible cryptographic key pairs (such as Ed25519 and RSA) entirely within the user's web browser using client-side JavaScript and the Web Cryptography API. The service includes formatting tools, fingerprint generation, OpenSSH configuration snippets, and educational documentation.

3. Cryptographic Custody & User Responsibility

You explicitly acknowledge and agree that:

  • Self-Custody: You maintain sole and absolute custody of any keys generated through this tool. We do not act as an escrow, custodian, or key management service (KMS).
  • Zero Recovery Mechanism: Because private keys and passphrases are never transmitted to our servers, we possess no technical ability to retrieve, recover, reset, or decrypt keys if you lose them or forget your passphrase.
  • Secure Storage Hygiene: You are solely responsible for setting appropriate file system permissions (e.g., chmod 600 id_ed25519 on Unix-like systems) and preventing unauthorized physical or electronic access to your generated private keys.
  • Device Security: You are responsible for ensuring that the device, operating system, and web browser you use to generate keys are free of malware, keyloggers, screen recording spyware, or malicious browser extensions.

4. Permitted and Prohibited Uses

You may use this tool for lawful personal, commercial, operational, and development purposes. You agree NOT to:

  • Use the service in any manner that violates local, national, or international laws, export regulations, or sanctions regimes.
  • Attempt to inject malicious payloads, reverse-engineer proprietary components, or disrupt the availability of the web service.
  • Misrepresent keys generated by this tool or falsely claim endorsement or certification by SSH Key Generator.
  • Scrape or mirror the service in a deceptive manner intended to phish credentials or private keys from unwitting developers.

5. Disclaimer of Warranties

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS, WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, NON-INFRINGEMENT, OR SECURITY.

WHILE WE EMPLOY ROBUST AUDITED CRYPTOGRAPHIC LIBRARIES AND W3C WEBCRYPTO STANDARDS, WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR ENTIRELY IMMUNE TO BROWSER-LEVEL IMPLEMENTATION DEFECTS OR SIDE-CHANNEL ATTACKS IN HERMETIC CLIENT RUNTIMES.

6. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, IN NO EVENT SHALL SSH KEY GENERATOR, ITS CREATORS, OPERATORS, OR CONTRIBUTORS BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO LOSS OF DATA, LOSS OF ACCESS TO SERVERS, REPOSITORIES, CLOUD INFRASTRUCTURE, COMPROMISED SYSTEMS, UNAUTHORIZED INTRUSION, OR BUSINESS INTERRUPTION, ARISING OUT OF OR IN CONNECTION WITH YOUR USE OF OR INABILITY TO USE THE SERVICE OR KEYS GENERATED THEREIN.

7. Intellectual Property

The layout, design elements, visual styling, branding, and written guides on this website are protected by intellectual property laws. OpenSSH, Ed25519, and RSA cryptographic formats are public domain standards. You retain 100% full, unencumbered ownership of any key pairs generated through this tool.

8. Modifications to Terms

We reserve the right to revise or update these Terms at any time without prior notice. The updated version will be effective immediately upon publication on this page. Your continued use of the website following changes constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms.
